The West Wing is an American political drama aired on NBC beginning in 1999. The West Wing takes its title from the west wing of the White House, which is where the Oval Office and the offices of the President's staff are located.
The plot of The West Wing revolves around political issues of the day and show President Bartlet and his staff dealing with legislative issues and getting them through Congress. Later seasons deal with issues such as shootings, elections and scandals.
The West Wing received praise from a wide array of critics, including political science teachers and former White House staffers, as well as the usual television critics. The West Wing won nine Emmy Awards in its first season, which set a record for the most Emmys won by a show its first season. The West Wing would go on to amass a total of 27 Emmy awards, placing the show fourth behind Cheers (28 Emmys), The Mary Tyler Moore Show (29 Emmys) and Fraser (37 Emmys).
