This sitcom revolves around six main characters who all live in Manhattan and various situations that occur on each episode showing what it is like to be young and single and trying to make something of your life in the big city of New York.
 
Each character had their own unique attributes.  Monica is a head chef, Rachel Green came from a rich family and a spoiled marriage and is now trying to stand on her own two feet and Phoebe came from a dis-functional family with a twin sister and makes her living as a masseuse.
 
The three male characters are Ross a professor of science, Joey, a struggling actor and Chandler Bing, a financially secure data processor.  The six are all best friends and although they are so different in so many personality traits, they all want the same thing, happiness and success.
