MacGyver is an American adventure series that aired on ABC starting in 1985.
MacGyver revolves around a unique secret agent , Angus MacGyver, who works for the Phoenix Foundation. Unlike most agents, MacGyver seeks out nonviolent solutions to problems and refuses to use a gun. Instead he uses his technical skills to solve problems, frequently relying on his Swiss Army knife and duct tape. Complex problems were able to be solved by MacGyver, usually in a matter of minutes, by fashioning some kind of contraption from the sparse items on hand.
The show and the concept behind it has become part of American culture. The term "MacGyver" is requently used as a verb to describe kit bashing a solution as in, "The screen door was making a noise but I MacGyvered it using some bubblegum and a paperclip."
