Hill Street Blues was a serial police drama that aired on NBC in 1981 and ran for seven seasons from January 15th, 1981 to May 12th, 1987 and a total of 146 episodes.  The show was well received and led to many other dramatic television series.  Just in season one alone, the series won eight Emmy Awards and a total of 98 Emmy's during its entire airing seasons. 
 
Hill Street Blues had various storylines that all tied together.  Some issues were solved in one episode, while others were resolved over a series of episodes.  Each plot had to do with situations that the characters dealt with in their personal as well as professional daily lives.  Real life issues were exposed on each episode with 'slang' language that had never been aired to this extent before.  

This crime drama show is about a strained police division that does not have enough workers in an unknown downtown city. The audience gets to see the stories of many different personalities from people in trouble to the captain of the police division.
