This television series aired on CBS from 1977 to 1978, following the movie of the same name that was released in 1976. The concept is based on the book by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson.
Logan is a Sandman, tasked with bringing anyone who reaches the age of 30 to ‘
Carousel ’ where they are put to death. The setting is the 23rd century, and the world has been devastated by a nuclear holocaust. With few resources remaining, there is a group of elders who run the domed city where the survivors live a pleasure-laden life, but they have decreed that anyone attaining the age of 30 must be put to sleep. When Logan is 26 he begins questioning the need for this drastic action, and soon becomes a runner himself, seeking a place called ‘Sanctuary’.
Logan is accompanied on his journey to freedom by Jessica, also believing that ‘Sanctuary’ exists where there is no decreed age to die, and by REM, an android.
They are being pursued by Francis, one-time friend of Logan and one of the police enforcers, who has been promised that he can join the group of city elders if he can find and eliminate the runners.
