Don Rickles plays U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Sharkey who works in California at a naval recruitment center. All the men working for him come from a diverse background, so there usually is a lot of joking going back and forth between the men. All jokes aside, he has a soft spot for all of the men and usually has to come to their defense when it comes to Lt. Whipple and boisterous base commander Capt. Buckner.
