Baa Baa Black Sheep (later syndicated as Black Sheep Squadron) was a television war drama based on the U.S. Marine Corps pilot Pappy Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron. The squad took its name from being put together as a team of outcasts who have not been able to stay out of trouble in other units. Pappy had the unique leadership capabilities to deal with the men, keep them in line and turn them into an effective fighting force.
In real life George 'Pappy' Boyington served as technical director for the show , although he repeatedly called the show 'fiction based on real events' and insisted that he was the only person in the show that actually existed and that the other characters in the show were not supposed to portray any other individuals.
