Chico and the Man was an American sitcom that aired on NBC from September 13th, 1974 to July 21st, 1978, running for a total of four seasons and 88 episodes. This was the first US television series to take place in an American-Mexican neighborhood (East LA). The show was a hit in its first two seasons and remained in the top ten for its remaining two seasons.
Chico and the Man starred Jack Albertson as Ed Brown (The Man), the cantankerous, hard-drinking widower owner of a run-down garage in an East Los Angeles barrio. Freddie Prinze, who played Chico Rodriguez, is an upbeat, optimistic Chicano street kid who comes in looking for a job. Chico's famous saying was "Looking Good!". At first Ed did not take a liking to him, but after the kid makes an effort to prove himself to Ed, he ends up letting the boy stay. When Freddie Prinze committed suicide the show considered cancelling but instead another young boy, Raul, was brought in to take over. The show remained on the air but ratings began to drop after the original Chico left the show and therefore it ended after four seasons. The show 's theme song is performed by Jose Feliciano.
