Barnaby Jones ran for a total of eight seasons airing on CBS from January 28th 1973 to April 3rd, 1980 and a total of 178 episodes were produced. Each episode was one hour long. It was a detective series that was a spin off from the television series, " Cannon " starring William Conrad.

The show starred Buddy Ebsen and Lee Meriwether who were a father and his daughter-in-law and together they ran a private detective firm based in Los Angeles, California. Buddy played a retired private detective who lost his son to murder. He catches the person responsible and decides to continue running the investigating agency that his son had run before his murder.

Given that Barnaby Jones was in his 60's he wasn't much for physical confrontations with the criminals, relying on his wit and associates to handle the grunt work.  Many guest stars appeared on the show over the years including William Shatner, Leslie Nielsen, Tommy Lee Jones, James Woods, Sean Penn, Don Johnson, Claude Akins, Bill Bixby, Dabney Coleman, Cathy Lee Crosby, Richard Hatch, Nick Nolte, Margot Kidder and many more.
