Mackenzie's Raiders is an American Western television series starring Richard Carlson that aired in syndication from 1958 until 1959 and was narrated by Art Gilmore. Carlson played Colonel Colonel Ranald S. Mackenzie, commander of the 4th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Clark near Brackettville, Texas, during the 1870's. The real Mackenzie was a nephew of Confederate States of America diplomat John Slidell and the brother of Union Navy Lieutenant Commander Alexander Slidell MacKenzie.
In the series, Colonel Mackenzie receives secret orders from U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant and General Phil Sheridan to organize a small group of raiders and stop marauding Mexican renegade bandits from crossing the Rio Grande into the United States or from returning to Mexico. The program continued as Mackenzie and his raiders ride deep into Mexican territory, but the Raiders also fought gunfighters and renegade Indians.
