Bat Masterson was a Western television series airing in 108 half-hour episodes on NBC from October 1958 to June 1961.

The series is based loosely on the adventures of William Barclay ‘Bat’ Masterson (1853-1921) who was a buffalo hunter , gambler, lawman , and newspaper columnist.

Bat Masterson is portrayed as a ladies’ man and a dandy, dressing like a city-slicker rather than a cowboy with his derby hat and gold-headed cane.  It is said he earned the nickname ‘Bat’ by wielding his cane much more often to discourage bad guys than he used his guns.

He travels around the West, finding adventure and often danger in each town he visits.  Similar to Robin Hood, he often helps the underdog and leaves each town in a little better shape than when he arrived.

An old girlfriend of Bat's is planning to get married but the man she is in love with as been accused of shooting a man in the back. She sends for Bat to help.

The Fighter (11/05/1958)

Bat arrives in Silverton, Colorado and gets involved with a crooked fight promoter. He saves the day for a young bare-knuckle fighter.
