Soldiers of Fortune (1955-1957)

Soldiers of Fortune

(1955-1957)

Action / Adventure

Cast: John Russell, Chick Chandler, John Daheim, Boyd Stockman, Red Morgan and Paul Baxley

52 Episodes

This syndicated series ran in the mid 1950's. Lots of fun and action in the freebooter aspect of the heroes. John Russell as Tim Kelly was solid as always, a typical fifties hero except he was not re-fighting World War II but was off in exotic places, mostly Africa, and hiring out his gun and talents to the highest bidder. Chick Chandler as Toubo Smith was the obligatory sidekick. Pause with me a moment and consider this: could 21st century television support a positive view of hired mercenaries?

Fifty years ago there were different sensitivities. But were they always worse? Or better? John Russell's character represented courage, self-determination, chivalry and freedom. It is odd how such qualities seem sorely lacking in so many of today's role models. But few of them are "Soldiers of Fortune"! From dangerous animals to head hunters! they face all the dangers of the jungle. you won't be disappointed viewing these 27 rare and hard to find episodes.
