Alfred Hitchcock Presents was a half-hour anthology series broadcast on CBS and then on NBC in later seasons for 267 episodes from October 2, 1955 to June 26, 1962.

The stories presented were dramatic and often suspenseful, with each episode being introduced by Alfred Hitchcock.  Each episode also ended with a parting message from Mr. Hitchcock, assuring the audience that the criminals had been apprehended.

The title sequence featured a caricature of Hitchcock’s face in profile, which he had drawn himself. More than one opening would be filmed for each episode; one for the American audience and another for the European audience.  In later episodes the European opening was delivered in French and German, both of which languages Mr. Hitchcock was fluent in.  In addition to hosting, Hitchcock directed some of the episodes also.  He did not, however, regularly appear in each episode as he did in many of his films.

In 1962 the program changed to an hour-long anthology series titled The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.

Cast:

Having met Martha Cheney, an invalid, while working at an art museum, Lyle Endicott schemes to take advantage of her when he loses his job.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (12/30/1961)

Cast:

Irene, the wife of the magician , Sandini, tricks a simple-minded young man befriended by Sandini into killing him for her.  When Hugo, the young man, decides he can use Sandini’s magic wand to perform his own magic tricks the results for Irene are very bad.
