Duffy's Tavern (1954)

Duffy's Tavern

(1954)

30 minutes

Cast: Ed Gardner, Pattee Chapman and Jimmie Conlin

Television / Series / Comedy / Sitcom

"Duffy's Tavern, where the elite meet to eat. Archie speaking." The program often featured celebrity guest stars but always hooked them around the misadventures, get-rich-quick schemes and romantic missteps of the title establishment's malapropism prone, metaphor-mixing manager, Archie. The television show, based on the very popular radio program from the 1940's, did not score big with audiences, and was canceled after a single season of 26 episodes. However, its influence lived on in a variety of popular shows, with Archie Bunker's Place , The Simpsons, and Cheers as prime examples.

Grand Opening

The Grand Opening celebration is a complete flop, with all of Archie's customers hanging out at the gambling hall next door--until Archie let's it be known he dropped one of Miss Duffy's rings in the chicken fricassee, that is.

Archie Faces Marriage

A beautiful woman rents the tavern's back room and convinces Archie to propose to her in order to cover up her illegal activities.

Archie's Political Campaign

Archie decides to enter the race and run for City Council.

The Counterfeiters

A sweet little old lady and her beautiful daughter rent the back room to print 'greeting cards' -- or so Archie thinks.
