The Big Story aired on NBC in black and white from September 16th, 1949 to June 28th, 1957.  It ran for a total of nine seasons and each episode was 30 minutes in length, although it is unknown exactly how many episodes were made.  The show was a anthology series that aired monthly.  It began as a radio show before later being adapted to television.   
 
The format centered around brave American journalists who tell a true story during each episode. One reporter would pick a story from newspapers across the United States and tell that story to the viewers.
