Dr. Who (1966-2012)
(Various Versions from 1966-Present)
Fantasy / Mystery / Science Fiction
Cast: Paul McGann, Charley Pollard and Lucie Miller
Rather than a true radio series, there have been several radio episodes of the popular Dr. Who series which started as a TV show on BBC in 1963. The first radio adaptation came in 1966 with the eighth incarnation of the Doctor, Paul McGann. Additional adaptations took place roughly once in a decade, with the next occurring in 1976, and then others in 1985, 1993, and 1996.
In 2005 production company Big Finish took over the Dr. Who franchise and produced several segments, although most of these were released on the web and CD instead of actually being broadcast. This radio adaptation was designed to coincide with Dr. Who's return to television in 2005. The latest broadcast was in 2010, but there is no indication that it will be the last.
A cult favorite, Dr. Who is a classic science fiction show about a mysterious man named the Doctor, a time-traveler who, along with his companions, battles injustice throughout time and space. The show has been shown in consecutive episodic story arcs, each with its own title and theme.
