Music Depreciation (1941-1945)
Cast: Les Paul, Walter Damrosch, Peggy
Lee, Martha Tilton, Margaret Whiting, Mel Torme, Andre Previn
Music Depreciation was a twist on regular musical programs of the time. Walter Damrosch had pioneered classical music on the radio with his show Music Appreciation in 1928. Music Depreciation was an experiment in swing
music, which had become popular throughout America
at the time. The concept of Music Depreciation was to take traditional classical melodies that Walter Damrosch had been broadcasting on his previous show for years, and ‘swing
’ them using some of the best swing
musicians at the time.
One of the most integral elements to the success of Music Depreciation was the talent and skill of the Les Paul Trio. The name Les Paul instantly rings a bell with all guitar fans of any age as a maker of excellent guitars. On top of this eminently qualified jazz trio Music Depreciation also included many guest stars such as Peggy
Lee, Martha Tilton, Margaret Whiting, and Mel Torme. Music Depreciation represents a great way to experience a really new and exciting blend of music as it was presented back in the early 1940s.
