Family / News

Cast: Tom Breneman

Tom Breneman starred in and created the program Breakfast in Hollywood, which ran on three separate networks (NBC, ABC and Mutual) between 1941 and 1948.  The program was unique in that it was unscripted improvisation that relied heavily on audience participation.  Many guest stars appeared on the program including Jimmy Durante, Andy Devine and Orson Welles.

The program started when Tom Breneman was having lunch with friends at Sardi's Restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard and came up with the idea for a show.  Calling it Breakfast on the Boulevard, the program ran on KFWB LA starting in 1941.  The program went through several name changes, including Breakfast on the Boulevard, Breakfast at Sardi's and finally Breakfast in Hollywood.  Tom Breneman went on to open up his own restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
