Henry Aldrich is the quintessential bumbling, but enthusiastic, teen.  Everything he touches goes wrong, but he doesn’t let that stop him.  Somehow he manages to get out of each scrape in just enough time to fall into another mess.  While the play ‘What a Life’ that the series originated from focused on the family as a whole, with Henry a minor character, the radio program focused most of its attention on him.  In a change from most family comedies, many of the episodes are written from a teen perspective with many event’s importance being skewed.
