Look!  Up in the sky!

It may be the most recognized beginning to any radio program.  You're probably thinking about it right now.  With only minor variation these famous lines began each 15 to 30 minute episode of his thrilling adventures for 11 years.

It's a bird!

Initially Superman had two secret identities on the radio, Clark Kent and the actor who portrayed him.  It wasn't until 1946 that Collyer revealed himself as the Man of Steel in an interview with Time magazine.

It's a plane!

The defender of Truth, Justice, and the American Way touched down in a time before jets and continued as a crusader through the Atomic Age.  During the war years he battled with Axis secret projects, spies, and saboteurs in addition to his more prosaic menaces such as aliens, robots, and mad scientists.

It's Superman!
