Michael Dorsey is an actor who has been out of work and is hard to work with. He begins to dress as a woman , Dorothy Michaels, so that he can find a job and supply money for his friend’s play. His plan works for he finds an acting role in a daytime soap opera. Dorsey really gets into character and becomes the woman he plays. Women begin to look up to him, stimulating them to be their own person and not let any man have power over them.  His new role complicates matters between a co-star he falls in love with and now having male admirers.
