This suspenseful spy drama follows Bill McLean (Van Hefflin), a former CIA agent living in London who was fired after he had stuck up for a man in his command, who later turned out to be a Russian defector. The embittered operative joins with another operative who has concocted a scheme to deliver a top Russian KGB agent to the CIA for a hefty price. But before the two can deliver the Russian, a trail of corpses and double crosses changes his plans. After his partner is murdered, McLean returns the payment check to the CIA and refuses their offer to give him his old job back.
