Tom Phillips gets into a car accident during a business trip before Christmas, which was caused by the other driver involved. He comes out of the accident with chronic back pain, not allowing him to continue with his work. Tom, his wife Peg, and their two children Tina and Jamie end up moving from Boston to the California desert. They buy a motel and the dry heat is good for Tom’s back. On their way to the desert, they run into hot rodders, Duke, Ernie, and Gloria.
That's when all of their troubles begin!
