This film won five Academy Awards and is still one of the most popular films of all time. The story is set during the unrestrained years of 1912-1923, where the Russian Revolution and Russian Civil War took place. This was also the time the Soviet Union was founded after the government of Tsar Nicholas II came to an end.
It begins Yevgraf Andreyevich, the KGB Lieutenant General Zhivago who is trying to find the lost child of his half brother, Yuri Andreyevich Zhivago, who is a poet and doctor and his lover Larissa Antipova. Yevgraf comes to discover that he may have a niece working on a dam assignment by the name of Tonya Komarovskaya. The film is then set in the year of 1956, where Yevgraf starts to give an account of the story for Tonya.
Yevgraf begins to disclose the life Tonya’s father had to her. Yuri Zhivago's father renounced and left his family, while Yuri's mother passed away when he was very young. He was left impoverished, so his mother’s friends began taking care of him as their own. Within the circle of friends is Gromekos, who is a withdrawn medical professor staying in Moscow. This leads Zhivago to medical school where Professor Boris Kurt teaches him. Although his passion is poetry, he is realistic enough to know that he will not make enough money for a family one day and thinks being a doctor will make him a good living. During the meantime Lara is staying with her mother who is a dressmaker. Lara and Pasha plan on getting married. Pasha’s political views change to very extreme after he was injured during an amicable demonstration, leaving him with a discernible mark on his cheek for the rest of his life. During the same evening Lara is taken to an elegant restaurant by a corrupt lawyer who captivates her. She comes home and then Pasha arrives with a gun, ordering her to kill any capitalists to avenge what they did during the protest. From here the story of war and love triangles begins. Although one may be married, he/she is still in love with another person.
