Savage Guns, released in 1961 in Europe and in 1962 in the United States, was directed by Michael Carreras and distributed by MGM.  This film is notable as being first in three areas: the first traditional Spaghetti Western; the first to star both American and Spanish actors, and the first to be shot on location in Almeria, Spain.  Following the American Civil War, ex-confederate officer Mike Summers (Don Taylor) has become a pacificist, and settles with his wife Franchea (Paquita Rico) in a small town in the Sonoran valley, hopefully to live out his life peacefully.  Instead, he finds that the town is being brutalized by gunman Danny Pose (Alex Nicol) and his gang who have been hired by Ortega (Jose Nieto), a local land baron who is forcing local ranchers to sell him their land.  Help arrives in the unlikely form of Steve Fallon (Richard Basehart), a nomadic gunslinger.  Franchea’s sister, Juana (Maria Granada) becomes romantically involved with Fallon.
