When Brendan O'Malley arrives at the Mexican home of an old lover, Belle Breckenridge, he learns she is married to an alcoholic preparing for a cattle drive to Texas. Running after O’Malley is lawman Dana Stribling, who has a particular reason for getting him back to supervision. Both men accompany Breckenridge on the trip. As they get close to Texas, pressure escalates since Stribling starts a relationship with Belle and O'Malley starts to feel attracted to her daughter Missy.
