The film is set during the Victorian period in England. Flora is the orphaned niece of a wealthy man and he enlists the help of Miss Giddens to take care of her and his nephew Miles. He gives her complete control on how to raise the children by herself in his mansion. Miss Giddens quickly realizes the ghosts of the previous governess, Miss Jessel and driver Peter Quint are dominating the children. She helps the children face their demons and get rid of the ghosts.
