Marion Crane, an office worker from Phoenix, is tired of her life and is frustrated because she cannot marry her lover, Sam, for he gives most of his money away in alimony . Her life changes when her employer gives her $40,000 to take to the bank . She leaves to start a new life with the money. Marion stops by The Bates Motel after a long drive. A quiet young man named Norman manages the motel, but he seems to be controlled by his mother.
