An aging politician attempts to run again for the next election in hopes of transforming the ways of the 1950s, for television was becoming a huge role in politics. The story is somewhat based on the career of Boston Mayor James Michael Curley , who was elected twice. The movie takes a deep look into the good and devious characteristics in politics and all the factors that play into an election. Tracy's struggle to keep his position, as mayor was a hard time for him, for he had to battle prejudice and people that came from families of wealth.
