Giant is a 1956 American drama film, directed by George Stevens from a screenplay adapted by Fred Guiol and Ivan Moffat from the novel by Edna Ferber.
Jordan Benedict is the boss of the wealthy Benedict ranching business in Texas. He travels to Virginia to purchase a prize horse by the name of War Winds. During his stay there he encounters and dates Leslie Lynnton, marrying her by the time he leaves for Texas.
They begin their life together in Texas, staying at the family ranch, Reata. Luz, Bick’s sister is the owner of the ranch and Leslie is not very fond of her. Jett Rink is an employee of Luz and has dreams of escaping Texas to find money elsewhere. He is also in love with Leslie. Luz despises Leslie so much, she tries to injure Leslie’s pride and joy War Winds while riding him. The horse throws Luz off, killing her. Jett is left with some land in Luz’s will that is part of the Benedict ranch. Bick is not too happy with this and attempts to purchase it back from Jett, but he denies his offer. Jett makes a home of the property that was left for him. The story continues on as Leslie’s and Bick’s kids get older.
