The film is set in an Italian-American neighborhood in Louisiana. Problems arise in the town when the authorities kill truck driver Rosario Delle while smuggling was going on. His wife Serafina withdraws herself from everyone after his death and tells her daughter Rosa to do the same. Rosa dismisses her advice and Serafina discovers an affair her husband had with another woman.
