D.A. Victor Scott is prosecutor in the murder trial of Ed Clary and sends him to the electric chair.  Scott receives information that Clary is not the murderer as Clary walks to his death. Scott tries to save Clary, but it is too late. Distraught by his mistake, Scott quits his job and joins a private practice. Frank Garland, a gangster, blackmails Scott into defending one of his men for a murder and Scott wins the case. He soon becomes involved with the gang's dirty ways. When the woman he secretly loves is charged with a murder related to the gang, he does not know what to do.
