Lillian Roth did not live a very normal childhood because of her mother, so she becomes a Broadway and Hollywood star before the age of twenty. She is engaged to be married to her childhood sweetheart, David Tredman, and he passes away right before their marriage. She begins to drink for the first time, which leads her to become an alcoholic. She goes through a brief marriage and then enters another marriage to a man who abuses her. She tries to kill herself, but Burt McGuire helps her find herself again.
