James Stewart plays a bounty hunter named Howard Kemp who has been searching for murderer Ben Vandergroat for a long time. Kemp begins to take on a couple of men to help him find Ben, who is traveling with his girlfriend Lina Patch, which are Jessie Tate and a Union soldier who was discharged, Roy Anderson. The men become greedy when they find out there is a $5,000 reward on finding Vandergroat. This helps Vandergroat and he even persuades one of them to help him escape.
