The film is set in France during 1918. Captain Flagg is in charge of a disgraceful group of Marine. Quirt is his top sergeant, who also happens to be a friendly enemy of his. They both are fighting for the affection of Charmaine, but their plan backfires when they find out she wants a husband. They are sent to fight a war afterwards, which shows how ugly war can be.
