The River was filmed in India and was seminal to the launching of the Bollywood career of Suprova Mukerjee. The film takes place in Bengal, India where three young girls live near a big river. Harriet is the oldest girl who comes from a big family of English settlers.Valerie is different from the rest, whose father is an American industrialist. Melanie is of mixed decent, for her father is American and her mother is Indian. The lives of the three girls changes when an American soldier arrives, becoming the first love of all three girls.
