This film is based on the popular daytime Mutual Broadcasting Company radio program, “Queen for Today”, that originated on April 30th, 1945 from New York. Hosted by Jack Bailey, a former vaudeville music man and World's Fair barker, the five times a week, thirty minute show moved top Hollywood California, and became a very successful television program that lasted well into the 1970's. Bailey, in pre-show interviews with audience members, would select 3 or 4 contestants who would pour out their hearts explaining why they deserved to be Queen for a Day, and then the audience would select a winner. This movie version was comprised of three short story segments detailing the process of a contestant appearing on the television program.
