The story takes place in Coaltown, Pennsylvania where miner Coke Mason aspires to become a better person. He wants to purchase a radio store and marry Rose Warren. His brother George, a gambler thinks otherwise and believes Coke can make it as a boxer, for he knows he is full of rage. Coke decides to give it a try since Rose is into money, yet is frightened of what he can do his opponent. He does not want to kill anyone and wants to overcome his demons.
