Gene Autry and his friend Mike (Pat Buttram) work to capture bank robbers Al Bartlett (Kenne Duncan) and Trot Lucas (Gregg Barton).  To throw them off, Bartlett kills Lucas and his own brother.  When an attractive young woman named Kitty (Anne Gwynne) claims to be Bartlett’s widow, Gene saves her from irate townspeople who do not know that she is actually the daughter of an officer killed by Bartlett.  Ben Luder (Alan Hale Jr.), a shady local, tricks Bartlett into accompanying him to town, claiming that Doc Taylor (Edward Norris) will do plastic surgery on him. When Luder’s ruse is exposed it is up to Gene to capture Bartlett and save the day.
