Alison Kirbe is from London and her world changes when she receives a letter from Texas, informing her that a livestock ranch has been left in her name. Everyone in London finds out about this news, for it is all over the newspapers. She sets forth sail to the United States, yet three men are following her on the same ship. The three men are Terence Keath, Jeremy Tayler, and Jeremy's lawyer, Matthew Kinston. Terence is a gambler and wants Alison to finish paying his debts. Jeremy is already a millionaire, but wants a wife to enjoy his money with and Matthew is Jeremy’s lawyer, who is trying to help Jeremy from making a mistake since he believes Alison is a fraud.
