James Stewart plays Elwood P. Dowd who befriends a spirit that looks like a human-sized rabbit named Harvey. Elwood is the only person to see him, as well as some others depending on the occasion. His sister tries to enter him into a mental institution, which results in comical scenarios. He finds a love in a place he never expected.
