Tom, a boy of ten years, lives on the western edge of the Salinas Valley ranch, dreams of having a pony. He lives with his mom, grandfather, dad, and Billy. His grandfather is a friendly pioneer who misses the old West and tom’s father, Fred comes in and out from the city and no longer feels the ranch is home. Billy is their trustworthy hand who happens to be a real cowboy . Tom has become very close with him since his father is barely home. Tom ends up getting a pony and learns how to deal with it and all the responsibilities that come with it.
