After being thrown off a wild horse, a strawberry roan, Joe finds himself paralyzed. His father, Walt is devastated by this and attempts to shoot the shores. His foreman, Gene Autry stops him from doing this. The roan ends up running away and Autry goes after it since Walt no longer wants him at the ranch. Autry captures the horse and disciplines it. He ends up naming the horse Champ and returns back with the horse with high hopes it contribute positivity to young Joe and help in prevailing his impairment.
