Pip is a friendly, na├»ve, young orphan who lives with the kind-hearted blacksmith Joe Gargery and his unpleasant wife, Mrs. Joe.  After he finds two galley criminals, he starts bringing food to them, fearing for his life.  Then a soldier appears who has Pip be his assistant and then the criminals are caught.  Pip finds himself being helped by a strange benefactor that pays for his education and gives him money to live a rich lifestyle.
