Minstrel Man is an Oscar nominated musical drama about the rise, fall and redemption of Dixie Boy Johnson, portrayed by veteran vaudevillian Benny Fields, who worked his way to the top of Broadway via the minstrel shows. Unfortunately, on the opening night of what was to become his biggest hit ever, his wife dies while giving birth to his daughter. Upset by this tragic event, Johnson leaves the show and his career, places his daughter in the care of some trusted friends and disappears. Johnson's daughter grows up to be an attractive young woman named Caroline, who decides to become a Broadway performer like her father. Using the name of Dixie Girl Johnson, Caroline embarks on her career which leads to a tearful reunion with her long-lost father.
