Pete Dawson leads a group of people out west from Missouri to settle in Rock Creek, a town in Oregon. Pete’s uncle, Joe Walker, was the one who made him move due to his criminal past twenty years ago. He says he is an honest man now, but he really is the same man he was in the past. He and his partner, Nick Barter, are issued a government contract to build a road, which is the only reason Walker had Dawson move a group of people out west. Walker only wants them for labor, paying them little or nothing at all.
