A rustic sniper (Gary Cooper) apprehends and attacks a German position all by himself, using the same technique as in turkey shoot. He instantly becomes a famous American hero of World War I and recipient of he Congressional Medal of Honor.
In 2008, Sergeant York was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
