Leslie Carter has just gone through a horrible divorce and everyone in Chicago turns their back on her for committing adultery. This results in her not having custody of her son. She plans to return when she has made a lot of money to get her son back. She travels to New York to become an actress. David Belasco, a producer, takes a liking to her and helps her to realize her dreams, while trying to get her attention as well.
