Arthur Williams is a prominent violinist who has an accident, injuring his left-hand fingers. He can no longer play due to his injury, but falls in love with swing music even though his heart has always been with the classics. His son, William has always been fond of the classics as well, but falls for swing. In need of money, William enters a contest intending to play classical music, but another contestant breaks his violin strings, leaving William to play swing.
