This film is set during 1880 in France, where a criminal called ‘The Face’ has murdered several people. A Brisson Bank employee named Michelle is murdered after the bank is robbed and the wealthy Chevalier Lucio del Gardo is the only person who can bring the bank back to business. Chavalier makes an offer to the owner M. de Brisson that he will deposit a large amount of gold, only if his daughter Cecile will marry him. Things don’t go his way since Cecile is in love with the responsible clerk Lucien Cortier, who comes from the lower class. Chavalier finds a way to bring down Lucien by finding evidence that could send him to prison.
